How depression can affect relationships

Depression can make it difficult to maintain supportive and fulfiling relationships.

If your partner is going through depression, they may be so overwhelmed by their symptoms that finding the energy to communicate feels impossible.

And in turn, the person facing depression may begin to feel like a burden. They may be aware of the effects their depression is having on their relationships but feel powerless to do anything about it. This can make them feel guilty and even lower their self-esteem even more.

Have you ever engaged with someone who had depression and how did your relationship work if so??

  1. Communication helps a lot, when engaging with someone who has depression. Open lines of communication help them feel safe and they are able to build trust.

  2. I have been in such a situation where I am the one with depression. My partner would wanna be there all the way, suggested we see a therapist together but I couldn't take it. I felt like it was too much for him though he was happy to help. I decided to break it off and deal with it alone...
